Staying at Roots is a truly unique experience. It is the opportunity to disconnect from your daily routine and reconnect with your inner-self and with Earth’s natural beauty and perpetual abundance.

Jungle Trails

Roots is located in the Northern Forest Reserve, where the most luxuriant and extensive of all the forest formations in Dominica is: the evergreen rainforest. So bring your trekking shoes and explore the richness of the flora and fauna through a range of jungle trails. With different difficult levels and duration, our staff will guide you on your perfect choice.

River Bathing

Dominicans say the nature isle has 365 rivers, one for each day of the year! Roots land is blessed with the refreshing and pure waters of the Bamboo River. Choose between reading a book at the river beach and just relaxing to the sounds of its flow, or venture to swim in our natural pool with its own little cascade.

Bird Watching

The monarchs of the rainforest are the two endemic parrots: the Sisserou- the national bird that appears in the Dominica flag- and the Jacko, easily to spot in the early mornings or late afternoons at Roots. Other often visitors of our surroundings are: the Lesser Antillean Bullfinch, Bananaquit, Broadwinged Hawk and different types of Hummingbirds.

Medicinal Garden

We believe in the great healing power of plants and our garden is home for different medicinal plants and trees. Some of them grow wild in our land, and we organically cultivate others. They serve as food and beverages for our restaurant and raw material for our tinctures, balsams and oils. Try our bush tea or rum while visiting us!

Nature Playground

Dominica’s jungle is totally safe for kids, with no dangerous or poisonous animals. Roots itself is the perfect nature’s playground offering children its natural attractions and the possibility to learn about plants, trees and discover little and harmless creatures such as: crabs, lizards, tree frogs and the friendly agouti.

Jungle Restaurant

Our elevated deck with great views of the jungle serves as our Restaurant, where home-made and healthy meals are prepared daily for our guests. Following a local and seasonal menu, we use organic natural ingredients from our garden and from other green-conscious nearby farms.

Sustainable Living

Living at Roots is living in nature so we take good care of it. We use the Bamboo River for all our water needs, sort and dispose our waste making compost to nurture the vegetables of our organic garden and generate our own electricity using a hydroturbine generator.
